THE SOCK THAT RAN AWAY
A red sock slips out of Theo's drawer and bolts for freedom out the cat flap, past a startled snail, all the way to the top of the hill. But the world is windy and wet, and one warm thought pulls him home. Somewhere in a drawer, his brother is waiting with a hole in his toe.

Monday morning, Theo opened his drawer.
One sock.
Just ONE.
A red sock with a hole in the toe sat all alone in the corner of the drawer.
"Where," said Theo, "is your BROTHER?"
The red sock said nothing.

"Pat-pat-pat-pat" went its little woolly toes.
"FREEDOM!" it whispered. "No more feet! No more shoes! No more SMELL!"
It ran past the slippers.
"Come with me!" said the sock.
"Too cozy," yawned the slippers.
It ran past the boots.
"Come with me!" said the sock.
"Too muddy," grumbled the boots.
It ran past the washing machine and the washing machine went "GLUG" in a hungry sort of way and the sock ran FASTER.
Out the cat flap!
"Pat-pat-pat-pat!"
Across the garden!
"Pat-pat-pat-pat!"
Up the hill, past a very surprised snail, all the way to the tippy-top
where the sock stopped And looked.
